Junior Project Coordinator

Reporting to the General Manager, the candidate will support the needs of the business planning, organizing and coordinating construction projects to ensure they are completed on time and in budget. The candidate must be organized; motivated; comfortable dealing with vendors, clients, consultants and site superintendents; and have a minimum of 3 years experience as a Junior Project Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies/issues
  • Provide weekly updates on construction progress to General Manager
  • Attend site meeting
  • Oversee the construction project from start to finish
  • Prepare documents for submission to City/Region
  • Prepare work plans and make revisions when needs arise
  • Perform a key role in project planning, budgeting, bringing about optimal use of resources and labour; materials and equipment; and ensuring their procurement at most cost-effective terms
  • Communicates effectively with the contractors responsible for completing various phases of the project.
  • Development of effective communications and mechanisms for resolving conflicts among the various participants.
  • Liaises with contractors to obtain estimations, pricing, product specifications, warranties and other correspondence
  • Develops guidelines for Site Supervisors
  • Project accounting functions including managing the budget, tracking of team expenses and minimizing exposure and risk in the project.
  • Reviews and processes invoices and progress claims
  • Updates trade lists
  • Maintain strict adherence to the budgetary guidelines, quality and safety standards.
  • Identify the elements of project design and construction likely to give rise to disputes and claims.
  • Tracks overall project schedule and ensures that projects are completed on time
  • Ensure project documents are complete.
Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Project Management
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the role of Junior Project Coordinator
  • Understanding of the Ontario Building Code and Ministry of Labour requirements
  • Understanding of engineering and architectural design processes
  • Valid Driver's Licence and own vehicle
  • Good working knowledge of general software such as Excel, Word and MS Project
  • Experience with Jonas Construction Software would be an asset
  • Ability to work in a very fast-paced and demanding environment
  • Knowledge of construction project management
  • Confident and personable
  • Ability to provide simultaneous support for needs across multiple projects in various phases
  • Able to instigate action for sub-trades, vendors and suppliers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Can confidently and accurately communicate the task at hand
  • Proficient in producing Gantt chart construction project schedules
  • Must be able to work extended hours, including weekends when required

Construction Estimator

Reporting to the General Manager, the candidate will support the needs of the business providing estimating and securement services on assigned projects from the budgeting and estimating stage to the completion of the contract letting and planning stage. The candidate must be organized; motivated; comfortable dealing with vendors, clients, consultants and site superintendents; and have a minimum of 3 years experience as a Construction Estimator.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare estimates identifying inherent risk and opportunities
  • Conduct thorough review of the project documents and analyze subcontractor requirements
  • Solicit pricing from subcontractors
  • Assist with project scheduling using input from subcontractors and staff in order to deliver projects on time and on budget
  • Prepare a summary of issues and participate in a detailed estimate review
  • Monitor progress, requisition change orders and identify any potential risks
  • Maintain relationships with sub-contractors
  • Provide and maintain unit pricing and database for material and labour costing
  • Formulate cost break down from estimates and for project progress
  • Participate in site meetings
Requirements:

  • Engineering background or relevant technical training
  • At least 3 years of related experience
  • Knowledge and experience with estimating and negotiating contracts
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to interpret and analyze contract documents
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Positive attitude and self-motivated
  • Customer service-oriented and strong team player
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and plans
  • Must be well versed in Microsoft Project and Excel
  • Jonas Construction Management Software experience is an asset
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

Construction Project Coordinator

  • Read and understand construction and shop drawings
  • Issue tender documents to subcontractors and award subcontracts
  • Ensuring compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects
  • Coordinating with vendors; clients; consultants and site superintendents
  • Coordinate and run site meetings, including detailed minute taking
  • Assist in planning, coordinating and supervising construction activities including crew and equipment
  • Manage and maintain plans; specifications; costs and material estimates; as well as subcontractor and related reports
  • Coordinate procurement of construction materials and supplies, ensuring timely delivery and accuracy
  • Creating; circulating; logging and maintaining construction documentation (RFI; change order; contracts; subcontracts; closeout documentation; etc.) and project files
